I bought a 20" Apple Cinema Display yesterday to replace my excellent-yet-aging SGI 1600SW flat panel monitor. The Cinema is flawless. It is dead silent (no annoying buzzing like my Dell screens at work), and there aren't any defective pixels that I've noticed so far. And it's right sexy!
Some notes:
The base of the Cinema is nice and compact, which frees up a lot of space for other desktop gadgets like memory card readers and Palm cradles.
Even though I live near an Apple Store, I purchased the screen at CompUSA. Why? Apple stores charge a restocking fee if you decide to return something, whereas CompUSA now has a 21 day guarantee. This is important if you care about monitor noise and pixel defects.
CompUSA offers a 2-year extended warranty for $69. But the included Apple warranty is one year, and my credit card doubles it for free. Why would I pay the $69 for something I already have?
I relegated my SGI screen to the Linux box. Sure is cool to see X running at 1600×1024 after all these years running at 1024×768.
